Vinyasa Flow + Standing Balance + Twists + Hips + Backbends
EVOLVE YOUR PRACTICE!
In this 6 week course I will help you discover breakthroughs in Standing Balance Postures on one leg such as One Legged Swan Balance, Eagle Pose, One Legged Side Angle, One Legged Garland Pose and Half Lotus Toe Balance just to name a few. Learn to balance in poses with courage and fly through life with grace and ease. In order for the balance to be there in a pose, the mind needs to be still. If the mind is distracted by what happened before class, or all the things that need to get done after class, it's not able to focus on what's happening in the moment. These postures truly help to keep us present while they make you stronger and more flexible on a physical level.
The course will also include a healthy dose of Twisted Postures. Deep twisting increases energy levels, cleanses the body and opens the mind to new levels of awareness. Learn healthy technique to increase flexibility in your spine and shoulders while creating solid foundation in your pelvis. Use the core strength of the body to support the twisting and extension. You will have fun with many levels of twists and even use the twisting position to enter some challenging Arm Balances!
The 6 week course will see us moving onto some deeper hip work. While this will be challenging for many it will also be deeply therapeutic and will help to improve circulation, release stress, and elevate the overall health of the body. For most of us our hips are often an area of tightness in our bodies, whether from spending a lot of time sitting or from doing a lot of sports like running or cycling. Yoga is great for helping to relieve tension in this area. Working on hip flexibility and stability can also improve lower back pain, balance, posture and are a great compliment to Backbend Poses as without open hips many of the stronger Backbends are inaccessible.
Backbends, like Headstands, challenge you to move into the unknown because you cannot see where you are going. Backbend Postures encourage a sense of openness. They gently open up the chest, abdomen, pelvic region and the whole front of the body. They are also strengthening and energising as they release tension and blocked energy. We will explore the best way to improve your Backbends and look at poses such as King Pigeon, Camel, Bow and Upward Facing Bow just to name a few. For those that have mastered these postures you will be given more challenging variations or ways to move into the postures. Classes will wind down with passive Forward Bends to counter stretch and a soothing Savanasa.
